If you're a true automotive enthusiast, then you are always on the lookout for ways to improve your "ride" so that you can enhance its performance and show it off at the next car show. You may know that a performance exhaust can give you a significant horsepower boost and when modified correctly can also enhance the way that it sounds whenever you blip the throttle. Yet when creating a complex and fully functional exhaust system, you have to be very careful to ensure that ultimate performance and reliability is not compromised. Upgrading from Standard
In a standard car, the exhaust system is meant to allow gases that build up as a byproduct of the combustion process to escape into the environment as quickly and efficiently as possible. Various straight stretches of pipe have to be connected to others that have multiple bends, which are in turn manufactured with different radii and set at specific angles. When the car is being built this is all fully automated to various tolerances that only account for stock operation.
However, if you're aiming for enhanced performance and want to create an upgraded exhaust system, then you will have to pay particular attention to the internal radii and cross-section throughout. When you do so, the gases can flow unimpeded and no "bottleneck" occurs, no matter how minute they may be. Should this happen, an unnecessary amount of pressure is caused which will undoubtedly impede performance.
A mandrel tube bender is the perfect solution in this situation as it will support the interior of any pipe being worked on when it is in the process of being bent into its new position. The mandrel will help to ensure that no creases are formed as the pipe is being moved, so that the interior is perfectly smooth and allows the gas to flow unimpeded.
